This wooden "calculator" helps teach math skills, patterning, and color recognition. Counting and moving the beads on this wooden frame develops a visual and tactile relationship with numbers and early math concepts–but to a child sliding, sorting and counting on this colorful abacus, it just feels like fun!

Beautifully made

This is a great novelty item and toy. My husband is a science and math geek so he definitely wanted our little one to have an abacus. At 1 years old, she is not doing any Math problems. However, she does like to move the beads back and forth, which is good practice for dexterity. Melissa and Doug make great toys (check out their puzzles and food items) and to be honest I’m surprised this didn’t cost more. The base is sturdy – she’s used it now for several months and nothing has come undone. She can easily grab it and carry it around as well. The second pic can give you a sense of the size as well.

A good old abacus for helping kids to learn their math

A good old abacus for helping kids to learn their math. I believe that every household with toddlers should have one. Also, we generally like M&D products as they seem to be made the old fashioned way (or at least that’s how they look).

Much More Than Addition and Subtraction

A Christmas present for a 7yr old and 11yr old. I wanted to teach my children basic Math concepts. This is an amazing tool. I have never used one and am learning to use it as well. Much more difficult than I thought it would be. It comes with basic instructions. We have been using YouTube to get more out of it. Hopefully my children will expand upon their ability to think and better incorporate different Math concepts.

Easy to use and best tool for Math

I love love Abacus, there is a reason it was the first tool used to teach Math. I really really wish I had gotten this instead of wasting money on other products that I have never touched again. I should have purchased this when my kids were 2.5-3 years old!!! I am having a hard time teaching addition and subtraction and other concepts to my 4.5 years old boys, and this is perfect because it teaches all these concepts, encourages using logic, and my boys’ being visual, they respond better to this. Highly recommend.

Beautiful and well made…

I purchased this for my six year old and she looked at it like I gave her a worm. But after I showed her how to use it, whenever she gets math homework she brings it with her – I’m happy she is actually using it. It looks exactly as shown, but what you can’t see is that it is well made and substantial.

This is perfect for my daughter. She is in kindergarten and is learning addition and subtraction and this has been a huge help. She is such a visual learner so this was great for her.

Love this. We had it when we were in school (a long time ago). My six year old uses it for math. Our friends 2 year old play with it to count and say his colors. We will be using it for simple multiplication this year in first grade. Thanks

Sturdy-Used for Unusual Purpose

I use this for keeping track of the number of times I climb a flight of stairs each day for exercise. They are perfect for this task. I know that is not the purpose of the abacus, but it certainly works well for the job. My goal is 40 flights a day, and this makes it much easier to keep track. It appears to be well made and sturdy enough for regular use.

Heavy duty wood. Beautiful. I am very happy with this purchase. Would buy as a gift. The only slight negative was a strong smell when we first removed the packaging, but it completely dissipated within minutes. No smell now!
